Webcomics

Awesome

The banners are for my three current favorites, which change regularly. Aside from that, everything is alphabetical.

Now this is someone who not only can draw, but obviously fully enjoys it too. Girl Genius is fun & zany while being mysterious & quick-paced at the same time.

I've learned more about D&D from this comic than from anywhere else. It's also, in addition to being the first webcomic I ever read, what inspired me to start 6Prime.

I love Questionable Content and you should too.

Just as Awesome

Bad Machinery is the child of the concluded Scary Go Round series by John Allison. The man's a genius; his sense of humor is a perfect blend of everything.
Everyone likes a little college gossip.
The Dreamland Chronicles is a truly heartwarming story. Certain aspects of the plotline are pretty predictable on the short-term level, but there is some pretty decent humor and the CGI art is quite good compared to most I've seen.
I like Earthsong. It's an interesting story with some pretty unpredictable setups.
I can't say enough about how much I love this comic. Dan Shive has a great sense of humor, and publicly recognizes a lot of his flaws, which is something I can appreciate in an artist. His storylines are long, complicated, and fun to follow. Read this one from start to finish before reading anything current.
And following that is Jerkcity, which seems to rarely venture out of MSPaint, has no story (although several running gags), and whose humor is based on the constant reference of dicks in 72-point font. It's great!
I'm not really a Manga reader, but I got hooked to the story in Misfile almost as soon as I started reading it.
Who doesn't want to read a comic about a strip club? NSFW.
Anyone who likes Japanese culture or who believes in the premise of the solidity of true love should appreciate this.
A pretty fun superhero comic! Pretty heavy on the fanservice and the large-breasted ladies and such but the stories are fun nonetheless.
"Romance, sarcasm, math, and language." Via stick figures.

Also Awesome but No Longer Updating

Achewood is a beautiful combination of wit and babble that will make probably half of you shake your head and say "what the crap is so funny about this?". Achewood is on indefinite hiatus, and Onstad hasn't made a definite promise of return, but I hope he can at some point, because his work is truly unique and delightful.
Bobbins is John Allison's first project, the veritable precursor to both Scary Go Round and Bad Machinery.
Dreamless is a riveting WW2-era romance tale illustrated by the wonderful Sarah Ellerton.
Everyone Drunk But Me was a slice-of-life comic Brandt wrote while she was studying abroad in Russia. Cute humor and easy to relate to.
An incredible superhero comic that was cut short in its prime for awful reasons, so the story ends at an unfortunate point, but it's still very well worth reading.
This is the first graphic novel posted online by Sarah Ellerton, who immediately followed it with the Phoenix Requiem.
A completed, 500-page webcomic for any and all fans of Metal Gear Solid. Last Days of Foxhound was done by a dude with very little artistic talent and a great sense of humor. I've never played Metal Gear Solid (alas) and I still greatly enjoyed reading this.
Erik Shoenek created a comic so funny that I still laugh out loud (which is rare for me) while reading his archives. I'd like to see him come back with new material, but I think he's permanently switched over to his work with Slipshine. I haven't been able to locate a complete online archive lately (the one I've been linking to has apparently died from neglect), so no link.
I'm not entirely sure how to describe Perry Bible Fellowship. You have to think about a lot of the comics to get the joke. It's outstanding, really.
This is the second online graphic novel by Sarah Ellerton. She gives us some of the best artwork I've seen in the webcomic context, along with some of the most mysterious storylines I've had the pleasure of following. I look forward to eventually reading a new work of hers; they are truly excellent.
I was very disheartened when Scary Go Round came to a close, but the feeling was completely negated by the almost-immediate introduction of Bad Machinery by the same artist.
